About Karen ~ A Short Story

I love small towns. I love living in them as well as working in them.

I was raised in the Tarrytowns within walking distance to school, Church, the shops and the Warner Library. We knew the private shop owners, we went to school with the children of the local doctors, policemen and business owners. As a college student I had my real estate license with a highly esteemed local real estate company. As an adult, I was in another field yet although my business was mostly in Manhattan, I was very happy to have my company in Mt. Kisco and live there as well.

As a new Mother I wanted to find the same experience for my children that I had enjoyed as a child.  I moved from Mt. Kisco -  the wonderful "Hub of Northern Westchester"  after my second child was born to the even smaller hamlet of Katonah which is in the Town of Bedford.

Katonah is over the top with authentic charm. The stately restored Victorians nestled into the green spaces planned over a hundred years ago after The Great Move made it my dream town. One thinks of Norman Rockwell. We made our home here, my children went to the local public schools in the Katonah Lewisboro District.  The Katonah Elementary School days were priceless. The amenities and quality of education in the upper years with their superior guidance department was invaluable. We enjoyed all of the Parades and Fairs the Chamber would sponsor.

For the Summer, the Town Parks have beautiful pools, tennis courts and Day Camps. There is also free entertainment in the Parks on summer evenings in July

Loving and enjoying Katonah has been a major part of our lives.  Service to the community and supporting  The Katonah Museum of Art, Caramoor and the John Jay Homestead was also important..All of these activities contributed to a very meaningful quality of life and education for us all.  Now that my children are older I am able to volunteer at these local institutions. When your teenage/college age children thank you for having made it their home town there is a great deal of satisfaction.

When I decided to return to real estate I wanted to find a company that had the same point of view. I was lead to Houlihan Lawrence by one of their top agents who said why not be with the best?

It was more than that. I wanted my "home away from home" to align with my own core values. I wanted to be with people that also supported our local heritage and quality of life. I also looked to be with a company where doing business was as local and as trustful as walking into our beloved Charles Department Store!

I wanted a company that supported the causes, that made their own home in our neighborhoods.
That is why I chose Houlihan Lawrence. I was also happy that they chose ME!  As a former business owner I wondered how I would feel as an employee in another company. There is such great integrity in all that they do that I have the highest respect for Houlihan Lawrence. Houlihan Lawrence supports both local and national charities. Most importantly Houlihan Lawrence cares about their Clients - whether they be Buyers or Sellers.
